My second Northern Lights chase

I experienced absolute magic in Tromsø, Norway.

Whilst on a business trip to Tromsø, I spontaneously joined a group of travellers on a northern lights chase. 12 Strangers thrown into a small mini bus equipped with cameras, enthusiasm and excitement. We set off at 17:00 from the Tromsø bus station and went on a 2 hour drive. The company I elected to go with is called “Chasing Lights” and it was everything I expected and more!

Its to early for snow but not too early for the lights, its October in Tromsø, Norway and the activity is wild. My Aurora Pro app is screaming at me to look up and low and behold, the dancing had begun!

To be clear, it was much temperature was much warmer than I had expected. At a solid 5 degrees upon us parking, and eventually dropping to 2 degrees, being outside was not as bad as it could have been. Chasing Lights actually brings full body suits to help people survive being out for several hours and we didnt event need them.

So we grabbed our bags, equipped with cameras and snacks and headed into the tree line. We found a camp spot, made a fire and just captured all the action.

I brought with me my Sony with a 14mm lens, and my Fuji Film with a wide telephoto lens. The majority of the shooting was done with my Sony, its my workhorse camera that just keeps on giving great images.

My goal for the night was to capture a time-lapse of the action, locked off on a tripod, at an ISO of 3000, shutter opened for 2 seconds at f / 2.8. At the end of the night, I ended up with just under 2000 images and here is a video to show you the action from the night:
